Helloooo! Can you believe August is almost here? So sad. Summer is just slipping away. But there are still more good times to be had. Like a vacation. And sunlight until 9 pm (or, well 8:30 ish for a little while longer). And praise be to God, college football will be here soon. Have you seen the Lion King yet? It’s so good. Good chills. BeyoncĂ© rocked it. But we knew she would. She had more lines than I thought she would.

MONDAY MOTIVATION IS BACK. Haha, I mean, not every Monday. But it IS Monday, and I’ve been feeling so motivated today. And none of it has to do with myself, or anything I’ve done… but instead, with what people have been sharing with me all day). In fact, I didn’t even have a great day in the gym, personally. And that’s fine. Not every day can be great. My shoulder started bugging me (again) when I was lifting, and using an 80 lb dball for thrusters today probably wasn’t the best decision to make me feel all great about myself…

But it’s hard to be down when you’re steadily getting texts/DMs/emails from people telling you about THEIR progress.

And what is really great about these messages isn’t the PR mile times, PR lifts, or the “I was able to squat more today than I have in a long time.” Or the “my body fat % went down AND my muscle mass went up.” (although those are all REALLY great things)…

But what is really great about these messages is the more I get to coach people, or just simply get to know someone in the gym, or from another gym, I’m able to see that they have a story. They’ve been able to overcome something. And fitness has helped them to do that.

And why do you think that is?

When you’re in the middle of a tough workout in the gym (in a CrossFit gym in this scenario)…or when you’re out on the track alone trying to finish those last couple of laps…or when you’re caught up in some crazy workout in a competition and you don’t even think you have what it takes to be able to finish the workout…(if you know, you know)….Or let’s get reallllyyy REAL – when you are skipping that easy fast food or cheap pizza (again… sigh..) because you know you have 10 more lbs to lose to be able to live a more active life and feel YOUR best …

…You’re doing more than you think.

Anything you do in the gym, or out of the gym for that matter, to better your health should be building confidence in you to know that whatever life throws at you (no matter how painful, or hurtful, or tough, or life altering it is) you can overcome. <—I want to be sensitive to this, because I know some people have gone through/are going through more than just a bad day at work…But I really do stand with saying that the lessons you learn in the process of fighting for your health (because it IS a fight) at least help you overcome anything that happens out of the gym.

Not that it will be easy, or happen overnight. But I truly believe that when you show yourself that you can finish a workout, or squat more than you ever have before, or run a mile faster than you ever have before (or, let’s be real..just finish a mile without stopping). Or, get that muscle up…

….you are doing more than you think!

All this ^^^ to say that hopefully you are in this fitness thing for more reasons than to LGN (look good naked, for all of you who have been living under a rock), to get a 6 pack, or prove that you can squat or deadlift more than your body weight.

There’s more going on than you know! SO, keep showing up. Keep working hard. Keep sharing (although you don’t have to post every little detail to instagram). And know that when something comes up that isn’t ideal, you’ll remember what all you have personally overcome, and you’ll be more equipped to face it.
