Gooooooood Morning! I hope you’re already having a great start to your week. Maybe you actually read these things (and you have a lot of free time at work) and you’re checking it out FIRST THING today. That’s cool. Thanks for reading.

WHERE IS SPRING, guys? I mean, is this a joke?

Alright, maybe if we start the week off right, start hustling, ya know.. Spring will change it’s mind, and the sun will come out.

For real, for real though. We have it good in South Carolina. It’s not THAT bad, I guess.

Speaking of hustling…we are already over 25% done with 2018. Time flies when you’re having fun. How are those goals holding up? Are you staying strong??

I went to hot yoga yesterday for the first time in 6 weeks (PRAISE THE LORD, I needed it). I love hot yoga – not for the stretching. <—-although that is what got me in it, and everyone knows, I need it. I also freaking love sweating. But what I love MOST about hot yoga is…well, 3 things:

  1. It has helped me with my breathing and focus! I have a loooong way to go, but I can honestly say that learning how to take deep breaths and focus on what I’m doing has carried over to CrossFit, or just moving in general, or being overwhelmed, or even just getting frustrated in traffic. EVERYBODY TAKE A DEEP BREATH EVERY NOW AND THEN. And then let it out. It feels good. Learning how to breathe even carried over into breathing through hard workouts during the Open last month for me..
  2. Whoever is teaching it always throws some sort of tidbit (if you will) of inspiration that gets me pondering…usually something about TAKING CARE of your body or LOVING YOURSELF (your entire self).
  3. Group classes are fun – even when you don’t even know everyone in there. I’m always up for changing it up and getting in a group class, doing something besides CrossFit. A group of people coming together, with a common (although still personal) goal is really cool!

Yoga is so good for me, and showing up to practice yesterday reminded me just awesome it is. However, I couldn’t catch my breath, and I feel like I was falling all over my mat. It was like I was doing it for the first time. But that’s ok. I’m going to keep showing up, and work at it, and get better!

That is one thing I want to implement back into my life. Yoga, mindfulness, and breathing practice on the weekly.

So, with that said, what is one habit you can implement or do this week to show your body some TLC?? After all, it’s the only one you have 🙂 Treat it with respect.

All it takes is one step. Maybe it’s food related. Maybe you need to cut out all excess sugar. Or maybe add in some vegetables in every meal. Maybe you need to drink more water. Or maybe you need to make an effort to get to the gym Monday- Friday this week.

Life happens. It’s easy to fall away from those habits we worked so hard to set. Our good intentions are forgotten. And coming back to what we promised ourselves is uncomfortable (in my case, kinda like hot yoga).

But it’s necessary.

Why? You ask.

Because you are worth it.

Just one step. And maybe your one step isn’t fitness or nutrition related at all. Maybe it’s to start going back to that breakfast group you were going to, or to go back to church because you promised yourself you would. It doesn’t have to be about losing weight or staying active (although I’m all about that!)

And if you’re unsure of where to even start, check out this article. (It’s a CrossFit Journal article, so hopefully you can read it. I can see it on my end, but I have a subscription). It’s full of easy, practical steps you can take to better your health, and it’s written on a 2nd grade reading level, without a lot of fancy, scientific diet words (my kind of reading) so you’ll be able to understand it.

What is one habit you can start (or start back) this week that will make your life healthier, happier, and just better overall?

For best results – results that will actually last – implement one habit at a time. Commit to it, get better at it, and you’ll be able to maintain it! Overtime, small changes will lead to big results.
